STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA ) BOO f 15 P'"v 327 <br />CONTRACT <br />COUNTY OF LEE ) <br />THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into this the 15th day of May, <br />by and between LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA, a body both politic and <br />corporate, hereinafter referred to as COUNTY, and RON POWELL, MD, <br />hereinafter referred to as PHYSICIAN. <br />WITNESSETH: <br />WHEREAS, Lee County operates and maintains an Emergency Medical <br />Service, hereinafter referred to as Service, and whereas the County <br />is required by North Carolina Law to maintain a Medical Director for <br />the Advanced Life Support Program and desires the Physician.to be <br />said Medical Director; and <br />WHEREAS, the Service shall maintain adequate equipment and <br />personnel to provide emergency medical services to persons requesting <br />care in Lee County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Physician desires to be employed as said Medical <br />Director in accordance with the terms setforth below; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual promises setforth <br />below and the payment as setforth herein, the County and Physician <br />agrees as follows: <br />1. Term: This agreement shall be effective on the date of the <br />resignation of the previous Medical Director, May 15, 1993, at which <br />time Physician agreed to accept the position offered by the County. <br />Subject to each parties right of termination as setforth below, this <br />agreement shall be for a term of one year from the date first <br />setforth above and shall be reviewed or extended upon the written <br />request of the parties. <br />2. Responsibilities of Medical Director: The Physician agrees <br />to accept the responsibilities as outlined in North Carolina's <br />Department of Human Resources Advanced Life Support Medical <br />Director's Handbook with the understanding that the Service is <br />already established and that the Director is responsible for review <br />and update of the medical aspects of the Service. At such time as <br />the Service and the Medical Director are prepared to initiate the <br />development of a more advanced life support program, the Service and <br />the Physician will review the time commitment and compensation and <br />may amend this agreement. It is also understood that the Service's <br />manager and training coordinator are responsible for recruiting, <br />hiring, training and continuing education of the technicians under <br />the supervision of the Medical Director. Medical Director shall <br />maintain professional liability insurance in the amount of at least <br />one million dollars ($1,000,000) coverage and shall furnish County <br />with a certificate of insurance. <br />16 <br />3.
