aoo~ 15 PA,r[ 342
Park. Upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford
and Wicker
Nay: None
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
Parks and Recreation Director Bob Dowless invited the Board to a
dedication ceremony on Saturday, August 21, 1993, at 9:00 A.M. for
the Park Avenue tennis courts and playground.
The Board considered a contract between San-Lee Humane Society,
Inc. and the County of Lee. County Attorney K.R. Hoyle discussed the
contract with the Board. Commissioner Matthews moved to approve the
contract, a copy of which is attached to these minutes and by this
reference made a part hereof. Upon a vote, the results were as
follows:
Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford
and Wicker
Nay: None
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered security matters. Commissioner Dossenbach
urged the Board to think about securing public places, starting with
the courthouse, install metal detectors and form a committee to
address the problem. After some discussion Commissioner Dossenbach
moved to appoint a committee to talk with the Clerk of Court, Chief
Resident Judge and Sheriff as to ways we can better secure our
courthouse and come back to the Board with recommendations. Upon a
vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Stafford and Wicker
Nay: Reives
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a six to one
vote.
Commissioner Reives asked that his reason for voting against the
motion be recorded as follows: "I am of the opinion that there was a
San-Lee Crime Commission created several months ago and it would seem
to me if the matter is going to be addressed it should be addressed
by that committee - City and County Commission. This committee was
created or established to deal with matters such as what we are
talking about now. To do anything differently would be adding an
additional committee to an existing committee". He further stated,
"I want to tell you I'm a long standing supporter of more crime
control but at the same time I think I'm having some difficulty
laying the courthouse versus this building versus school buildings.
07
7
