The Board considered metal screening security devices for the Courthouse. Commissioner Dossenbach updated the Board on a recent meeting which consisted of himself, Commissioner Paschal, County Manager William Cowan, Clerk of Court Lucille York, Sheriff Billy Bryant, and Chief District Court Judge William Christian concerning security devices. Commissioner Reives asked that the record show there was another committee appointed by the Mayor (city lead committee) some time ago, but there has never been a meeting of any kind held. Commissioner Dossenbach said the recommendation from his meeting was to obtain two metal detectors, one to be presently placed outside each courtroom in the old Courthouse, with the understanding as soon as the new Courthouse is completed these two metal detectors will be moved to the proper places at the new Courthouse for use. County Manager William County discussed prices of various units with the Board. After much discussion it was decided to bring this matter up again at the next meeting after County Manager William Cowan had a chance to look over material, get a better idea of prices involved, check on maintenance of the units in question, have a floor plan of the new Courthouse available showing doors where units are to be placed and cost sheets. The Board considered a request from the Downtown Redevelopment Corporation for the acceptance of the demolition debris of the old Southern National Bank building on Wicker Street at the county landfill per gratis of the county. Once the building is demolished, the lot will be used for free public parking. After some discussion Commissioner Matthews moved to approve the acceptance of the demolition debris at the county landfill.
