Labels and signs with the appropriate biohazard <br />warnings shall be affixed to all containers containing <br />regulated waste, refrigerators and freezers containing <br />blood or other potentially infectious materials. <br />2. Red bags or red containers may be substituted for <br />labels. <br />3. Sign shall be posted at the entrance to the work area <br />where potentially infectious materials are present. <br />Training/Recordkeeping <br />1. Education and Orientation <br />a. This policy will be provided to and reviewed with <br />every new employee who is affected. Annual in- <br />service training will be provided for all personnel <br />with potential for occupational exposure. <br />b. The training shall include: <br />(1) An accessible copy and explanation of OSHA <br />Standard 1910.1030; <br />(2) A general explanation of bloodborne pathogens <br />and related diseases, such as HBV and HIV; <br />(3) An explanation of modes of transmission; <br />(4) An explanation of the employer's exposure <br />control plan and the means by which the employee <br />can obtain a written copy of the plan; <br />(5) Universal precautions and appropriate selection <br />of protective clothing; <br />(6) An explanation of the appropriate methods for <br />recognizing tasks and other activities that may <br />involve exposure to blood and other potentially <br />infectious materials; <br />(7) An explanation of the use and limitations of <br />methods that will prevent or reduce exposure <br />including appropriate engineering controls, work <br />practices, and personal protective equipment; <br />(8) Information on the types, proper use, location, <br />removal, handling, decontamination and disposal <br />of personal protective equipment; <br />(9) An explanation of the basis for selection of <br />personal protective equipment; <br />(10) Procedures to be followed in the event of an <br />exposure; <br />(11) Information concerning the Hepatitis B <br />immunization program; <br />(12) Explanation of signs, labels and color coding. <br />(13) Recordkeeping policy. <br />(14) An opportunity for interactive questions and <br />answers. <br />11 <br />
