Red bags or red containers may be substituted for labels. 3. Sign shall be posted at the entrance to the work area where potentially infectious materials are present. Training/Recordkeeping 1. Education and Orientation a. This policy will be provided to and reviewed with every new employee who is affected. Annual in- service training will be provided for all personnel with potential for occupational exposure. b. The training shall include: (1) An accessible copy and explanation of OSHA Standard 1910.1030; (2) A general explanation of bloodborne pathogens and related diseases, such as HBV and HIV; (3) An explanation of modes of transmission; (4) An explanation of the employer's exposure control plan and the means by which the employee can obtain a written copy of the plan; (5) Universal precautions and appropriate selection of protective clothing; (6) An explanation of the appropriate methods for recognizing tasks and other activities that may involve exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials; (7) An explanation of the use and limitations of methods that will prevent or reduce exposure including appropriate engineering controls, work practices, and personal protective equipment; (8) Information on the types, proper use, location, removal, handling, decontamination and disposal of personal protective equipment; (9) An explanation of the basis for selection of personal protective equipment; (10) Procedures to be followed in the event of an exposure; (11) Information concerning the Hepatitis B immunization program; (12) Explanation of signs, labels and color coding. (13) Recordkeeping policy. (14) An opportunity for interactive questions and answers. 11
