BPECP <br />a <br />Bov 15 Der 499 <br />a. The Department Head will make available immediately <br />a medical evaluation and follow-up by a physician <br />approved by the Lee County Finance Office. <br />Exposures which occur after normal business hours <br />will be evaluated at the Central Carolina Hospital <br />Emergency Room. Medical evaluation and follow-up <br />shall include the following: <br />(i) Documentation of the route(s) of exposure, and <br />the circumstances under which the exposure <br />incident occurred: <br />(ii) Identification and documentation of the source <br />individual unless the employer can establish <br />that identification is infeasible or prohibited <br />by state or local law: <br />(iii) The source individual's blood shall be tested <br />as soon as feasible and after consent is <br />obtained in order to determine HBV and HIV <br />infectivity. If consent is not obtained, the <br />employer shall establish that legally required <br />consent can not be obtained. When the source <br />individual's consent is not required by law, <br />the source individual's blood, if available, <br />shall be tested and the results documented. <br />(iv) Results of the source individual's testing <br />shall be made available to the exposed <br />employee, and the employee shall be informed <br />of applicable laws and regulations concerning <br />disclosure of the identity and infectious <br />status of the source individual. <br />(v) The exposed employee's blood shall be collected <br />as soon as feasible and tested after consent is <br />obtained. <br />(vi) If the employee consents to baseline blood <br />collection, but does not give consent at that <br />time for HIV serology testing, the sample shall <br />be preserved for at least 90 days. If, within <br />90 days of the exposure incident, the employee <br />elects to have the baseline sample tested, such <br />testing shall be done as soon as feasible. The <br />medical provider selected by Lee County will <br />maintain the integrity of the blood sample <br />through proper chain of command. <br />(vii) The employer shall ensure that the healthcare <br />professional evaluating an employee after an <br />exposure incident is provided the following <br />information: A copy of this regulation. A <br />description of the exposed employee's duties <br />as they relate to the exposure incident. <br />Documentation of the route(s) of exposure and <br />circumstances under which exposure occurred. <br />Results of the source individual's blood <br />testing, if available, and all medical-'r'ecords <br />relevant to the appropriate treatment of the <br />51 <br />9 <br />
