BPECP <br />WK 15 arsI 497 <br />e. Resuscitation Equipment: Approved pocket masks or <br />mouth-to-adjunct device shall be issued to employees <br />classified in Category I and II. <br />f. Proper disposal of personal protective clothing and <br />equipment shall be required. Disposable items <br />contaminated with blood or other potentially <br />infectious material shall be placed immediately in <br />an appropriately labeled disposal container. Non- <br />disposable items contaminated with blood or other <br />potentially infectious material shall be placed <br />immediately in an appropriately labeled biohazardous <br />(red or orange) laundry container. Non-disposable <br />contaminated laundry will be sent to an approved <br />contractor for appropriate cleaning. All PPE shall <br />be removed prior to leaving the work area. When PPE <br />is removed, it shall be placed in the appropriately <br />designated area or container for storage, washing, <br />decontamination, or disposal. Employees are not to <br />take home PPE or contaminated clothing for cleaning. <br />g. Housekeeping <br />(1) Infectious Waste Bags: Extra strength <br />polyethylene bags identified with the <br />"biohazard" symbol or label, shall be available <br />at the locations where infectious waste is <br />likely to be collected. <br />(2) Any body waste, fluid, container, or items <br />suspected of being contaminated, shall be <br />disposed of by placing in red biohazard bag <br />(or placed in leak-proof container with the <br />"bio-hazard" label attached. <br />(3) The area/surface to be cleaned, shall be <br />cleaned with an EPA registered disinfectant. <br />(4) Spills of all types shall be considered to be <br />infectious and potentially hazardous. Free <br />liquid should be absorbed with toweling or other <br />approved absorbent, with gloved hands, taking <br />care to watch for sharp objects. If there is a <br />possibility of splattering or generation of <br />droplets, protective eyewear should also be <br />worn. All materials should be red-bagged (or <br />placed in a leakproof container with the <br />"biohazard" label attached) and placed in a <br />regulated waste container. Biohazard waste and <br />regular waste shall not be mixed together. <br />(5) Waste receptacles shall be emptied on a daily <br />basis and fresh liners inserted daily. Waste <br />containers and lids shall be cleaned daily with <br />an appropriate disinfectant. Trash bags shall <br />be tied and properly disposed of. <br />49 <br />7 <br />
