BoaK r15 P~s~ 519
closing. I would urge you to support the motion. We may not be able
to do a thing about it because the Airport Authority is body politic,
they can do what they want to. I think the best message that we can
send to the people of Lee County is that the County Commissioners are
interested in how the development of Lee County goes".
Commissioner Dossenbach made the following statement, "I can
appreciate what Commissioner Garner is saying, but on the other hand
I have very strong reservations about the County Commissioners
undermining what the Airport Authority is trying to do. Before such
a motion comes before this Board I think it would behoove the
Chairlady to maybe appoint a committee to meet with the Airport
Authority and see what their side is, what our side is and maybe see
if we can come to a common ground. I don't think we know all the
details as to what the Authority is trying to do and to go and vote
on a motion, not fully understanding what their objective or plans
are for the purchase of this land, I don't think we should do that".
Commissioner Reives made the following statement, "I personally
don't feel comfortable in that I don't recall exactly what the
numbers were in terms of what will be required, and I'm not really
interested in voting until I've had a chance to refresh my memory or
to have something, a document that tells me exactly what type of
acreage we're talking about. I do realize that on the one hand we're
saying specifically for the airport' I don't know what else goes
along with that - I'm just not sure at this time. As for the closure
of the road, who's plans are we talking about - where did that come
from".
Chairperson Matthews appointed Commissioners Dossenbach and
Garner to meet with the Airport Authority to try and get some
understanding of what will be taking place and report back to the
Board.
After further discussion, Commissioner Reives moved to table the
motion. Upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford
and Wicker
Nay: None
The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered a compensation increase for Jury Commission
members from $5.00 per hour to $10.00 per hour. After some
discussion Commissioner Garner moved to pay the Jury Commission
$10.00 per hour for work completed in this session and increase to
$40.00 per diem, per day, beginning the next session. Upon a vote,
the results were as follows:
Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford
006
6
