No action <br />was taken on this matter. <br />The Board heard a report from Ms. Carmen Hoyle and Mary Thornton <br />Yarborough, members of the Lee County Environmental Affairs Board. <br />They expressed concerns to the Board concerning the proposed <br />Low-Level Radioactive Waste facility to be located in southwestern <br />Wake County. No action was taken on this matter. <br />The Board considered a request to schedule a public hearing to <br />adopt Zoning Overlay Districts which protect the airspace for the new <br />airport to be located in northern Lee County. Ms. Leisa Powell, <br />Planner, discussed with the Board the need for this public hearing. <br />According to Hobbs, Upchurch & Associates, the Federal Aviation <br />Administration wants this completed now to protect the airspace <br />during the land acquisition and construction phases of the airport's <br />development. After some discussion Commissioner Paschal moved to <br />hold a public hearing on February 21, 1994, at 7:00 P.M. to amend the <br />Lee County Zoning ordinance to consider the Zoning Overlay Districts. <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford <br />and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered recommendations from the Chamber of <br />Commerce on the future of the Economic Development Program. Chamber <br />Representative Allen white was present and presented the <br />recommendation to the Board. He discussed such things as <br />organization, accountability over the Lee County Economic Development <br />Corporation and funding needs. After some discussion Commissioner <br />Garner moved to accept the proposal for further study and future <br />consideration. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford <br />and Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board was introduced at this time to the new Lee County <br />School Superintendent, Steven Wrenn, by Ms. Ruth Gurtis, Chairperson <br />of the Lee County Board of Education. Mr. Wrenn ask the Board for <br />input with what two changes they would make in the Lee County schools <br />and what two things they would maintain in the present system. Board <br />members took this time to ask Mr. Wrenn questions. <br />4 <br />
