010 <br />2: <br />,W <br />7 <br />4e ike Cnountg ~6varb of CITammissioners <br />~ esaIutian <br />WHEREAS, William Edwin Horner, Sr., founder and publisher emeritus of The Sanford Herald died at Moore County <br />Regional Hospital on February 7, 1994, at the age of 92; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Horner represented Lee Canty in the Noose of Representatives of the North Carolina General Assembly <br />.during the years 1936 - 1938 and 1941 - 1945; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Horner served as a Highway Commissioner during the years 1961 - 1965 and was instrumental in securing <br />improvements to Endor Street, which was later renamed Horner Boulevard; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr, Horner served on the board of trustees of several institutions of higher education including the <br />University of North Carolina, Louisburg College, Fayetteville State University and Methodist College in Fayetteville; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Horner was a successful businessman and made generous contributions to Methodist College, Chowan <br />College and Duke University Cancer Center, and other worthy causes; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Horner, until confirmed because of declining health and advancing age, was an active participant in <br />the commercial, cultural, political, religious and civic affairs of this community and his absence has been and will <br />be sorely missed; <br />I:~ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for Lee County as follows: <br />1: Section I. That it mourns the loss of William Edwin Horner, Sr., and extends its condolences to his children; <br />and <br />::'and <br />Section 2.
