Hubert Garner; Bertha L. Matthews; Nathan E.
Paschal; Robert T. Reives; William C. Stafford, Jr.; and Gordon A.
Wicker.
J Chairperson Matthews presided and the following business was
transacted:
County Manager William Cowan told the Board the purpose of the
continued meeting was to hear a report from our Consultant Interior
Designer, employed at no fee to Lee County, to provide furniture
specifications and design for the Courthouse/Jail/Law Enforcement
Center project. The purpose of the meeting was to seek authorization
from the Board to seek competitive bids for this furniture.
Anticipated occupancy of the new building is expected around late May
or early June and this would provide the County with an opportunity
to seek competitive bids and give the manufacturer, which would be
Boling Furniture Company, ample time to manufacture the furniture and
have it installed in the new facility. Mrs. Bea Fields has been
working with the Designer on this project. Mrs. Fields introduced
Ms. Judy Phillips, who gave the Board a presentation on proposed
furniture, fabric and designs she has selected for the new facility.
Various Board Members asked questions and expressed concerns about
some areas and furniture recommendations. After some discussion
Commissioner Stafford moved to move forward with the project and
solicit bids for furniture and equipment for the Courthouse/Jail/Law
Enforcement Center project, excluding the items discussed (two lobby
areas and jury box chairs).
