a~~K 720 . <br />and services which improve the quality of life in the United States <br />and the World; <br />WHEREAS American workers should be recognized as one of our <br />Nation's most valuable resources; <br />WHEREAS the American spirit of entrepreneurship, pride of <br />craftsmanship, and commitment to quality are hallmarks recognized <br />throughout the world; <br />WHEREAS the Unites States and its citizens have reason to <br />celebrate the strength and quality of American products and services; <br />WHEREAS the quality and abundance of American goods are a <br />tribute to the productivity and ability of American workers; <br />WHEREAS the ability of American companies to export, even in the <br />face of strong trade barriers in many countries, is a sign of the <br />true competitiveness of American products; <br />WHEREAS American farmers and ranchers provide this country and <br />the world with a wide array of high quality food and fiber products <br />and consistently create annual agricultural trade surpluses of more <br />than $20,000,000,000; <br />WHEREAS the energy and perseverance of American business serves <br />as a beacon for other nations that strive to ensure prosperity for <br />their people; and <br />WHEREAS American small business provides a basis for economic <br />progress; and for the creation of jobs and opportunities for people <br />from every corner of America; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of <br />Representatives of the Unites States of America in Congress assembled <br />that Labor Day, September, 1994, is designated as "Try American Day". <br />The President is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation <br />calling on the people of the United States to observe the day with <br />appropriate ceremonies and activities and to honor the day through <br />the purchase of American-made goods and services. <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives and Stafford <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board observed a short recess.
