God 15 ma 761
airplanes to this airport; going to Raleigh and other out-of-town
places and talking with people that are keeping their corporate
planes elsewhere about relocating to Sanford with the idea that they
will eventually be moving to the new airport and letting them know
they can get better service here and be much closer to Raleigh;
working on getting a mechanic to set up a shop and get established;
hired a flight instructor who started work today; has an airplane in
a pre-purchase inspection in Asheboro that is to be rented along with
another plane he hopes to purchase or lease soon; and basically to
operate the airport in general with the idea to provide good service
to the people that are based here and hopefully offer good service to
the people that come through the airport to visit Sanford for their
business or possibly thinking about establishing a business in the
area. He hopes to be able to make a living out of the airport and
provide a service to the community.
COMMISSIONER MATTHEWS - You said you hired a mechanic -
correct.
WES BROERS - I said I'm in the process of hiring a mechanic.
COMMISSIONER MATTHEWS - How will the salary for this person be
handled, will he do this by the services that he renders to the
people or will he be hired as a salaried person.
WES BROERS - He will work for me.
JERRY LAWRENCE - What we have done is contracted our managerial
services to Mr. Broers. Mr. Parks is drawing up a contract for his
services to be contracted by the Airport Authority to provide pumping
of gas, hangars, etc. and also another contract that will give him
the ability to operate and maintain constructional services and also
maintenance services individually.
COMMISSIONER WICKER - Is your Board going have control over his
pricing?
JERRY LAWRENCE - It will be a similar type of arrangement with
regards to pricing, etc.
JERRY LAWRENCE - Are there any airport questions with regards to
the old airport or the current airport?
COMMISSIONER GARNER - I think all of us would like to know, and
the people of Lee County would like to know, what's going to happen
to the old airport - where do we stand with reimbursement of any
money or any money accrued to the County as a result of a sale or
disposition of that property.
JERRY LAWRENCE - Well, the situation is that it's going to be
three or four years down the road before anything is going to be done
2
