a
BOOK 15 Pact 879
003 4
The Board considered matching funds for a grant application for
the North Carolina Information Highway. Commissioner Dossenbach told
the Board several representatives from Lee County went to Guilford
Technical Institute several days ago and looked at a system currently
in place there. He feels that due now to the uncertainty to funding
and the cost of line charges, which would cost the county $48,000.00
a year ($4,000 a month), it would be best to take no action on this
matter at this time. After further discussion, no action was taken
on the matter.
The Board considered a bid for new gym flooring for W. B. Wicker
School. Recreation Director Bob Dowless told the Board he was
recommending Sport court flooring for the Wicker Gymnasium. He told
the Board the competitive sports performance, multi-purpose use and
low life cycle cost were major factors in the selection of this
floor. This flooring is the only synthetic approved by the
International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the worldwide governing
body of basketball. The following bid was received:
Sport Court, Inc. $ 31,472.00
Alternate Bid $ 28,472.00
After further discussion Commissioner Reives moved to approve the low
bid of $28,472.00 from Sport Court, Inc. Upon a vote, the results
were as follows:
Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford
and Wicker
Nay: None
The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered a IV-D contract with Love and Love
Attorneys. Social Services Director Diane Lamb recommended to the
Board the County hire a paralegal to handle Child Support paperwork
for County Attorney K. R. Hoyle and retain his services as the court
attorney for these cases. Currently the Department of Social
Services has a contract with Love & Love Attorneys, which will expire
the end of June, 1995. A six-month notice must be given to terminate
the contract. Ms. Lamb told the Board the State Office will pay up
to $90.00 per hour for lawyer or paralegal fees and these funds could
be put back into the County instead of going to an outside attorney.
After some discussion commissioner Dossenbach moved to approve
terminating the Child Support contract with Love and Love Attorneys
and hire a paralegal to handle Child Support paperwork for the County
Attorney K.R. Hoyle and retain his services as the court attorney for
these cases. Upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, Stafford
and Wicker
Nay: None
3
