0 bm 15 pt-(! 968
® Government Center: Ms. Cynthia woody, vice-Chairperson Thelma Cox of
the Lee County Mayors Committee, Ms. Teresa Wilson, Ms. Nancy Ratz
and Rev. R.A. Bradley. Social Services Director Diane Lamb and the
Lee County Social Services Board are asking the Board to not renew
the contract with Vocational Rehabilitation for FY 1995-1996 due to
needing the space this organization currently uses on the fourth
floor. After much discussion it was decided to consider this matter
in the FY 1995-1996 budget. No action was taken on the matter.
The Board heard concerns from Jim Newman, Director of the Lee
County Chapter of the American Red Cross, concerning space needs for
his agency. He showed the Board a slide presentation of his current
office and supply areas, which are much too small, with no classroom
space and very little storage space. After some discussion
Commissioner Moretz moved to authorize the County Manager to draft a
policy on the use of County owned space by non-profit organizations
and return it to the Board for consideration. Commissioner Reives
seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Moretz, Reives, Stafford and
Wicker
Nay: None
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered several matters relating to the renovation
® at the old courthouse building. Clerk of the Works Allen Capps gave
the Board an update on change orders for renovation to the first
floor at the old courthouse to date. Mr. Capps and County Manager
William Cowan went over additional contract modifications projected
for the first floor of the old courthouse and answered questions of
the Board. After some discussion commissioner Dossenbach made a
motion to authorize the County Manager to appropriate up to $7,500 in
change orders to the first floor renovation of the old courthouse.
Commissioner Cox seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results
were as follows:
Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Moretz, Reives, Stafford and
Wicker
Nay: None
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
Mr. Cowan further discussed with the Board proposed improvements
to the second floor area of the old courthouse. He presented to the
Board two alternatives to the proposed second floor renovation - one
for $32,670 and the other for $92,741.00. After much discussion
Commissioner Cox moved to accept alternative number one which would
cost $32,670 to renovate the second floor courtroom and judges
chambers of the old courthouse. Commissioner Stafford seconded the
motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows:
J
005
5
