9 0 <br />boo 15 wu 966 <br />® WHEREAS, there are three basic forms of county government - <br />Commission form, Commission-Administrator form, and County Executive <br />form - each having a number of distinguishing variations. <br />WHEREAS, counties provide a wide spectrum of services to their <br />residents, and county employees are proud of the service they <br />provide. <br />WHEREAS, state constitutions legislate the revenue sources <br />counties may pursue to meet their budget requirements and taxes are <br />the primary revenue source for counties. <br />WHEREAS, counties spend more than $140 billion a year in <br />providing libraries, hospitals, highways, police and fire protection, <br />health and welfare services, parks and recreation and dozens of other <br />services for their citizens. <br />WHEREAS, in a recent Gallup poll of U.S. citizens' attitudes <br />toward federal, state and local governments, individuals said that <br />local governments gave the most for the money and spent tax dollars <br />most wisely. <br />WHEREAS, it is time for this nation to recognize that it is <br />everyone's responsibility to ensure that our children have the <br />opportunity to grow in a nurturing environment to become self-reliant <br />and productive adults. Children are this country's most valuable <br />resource. <br />WHEREAS, like our children, America's counties are America's <br />future. <br />NOW, THEREFORE be it resolved by the Lee County Board of <br />commissioners to proclaim the week of April 2-8, 1995, as National <br />County Government Week. <br />Commissioner Moretz seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Moretz, Reives, Stafford and <br />Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a budget transfer for a 4-H Summer Program <br />Assistant for the Cooperative Extension Office. Cooperative <br />Extension Director John Hall was present and asked the Board to <br />consider a budget transfer request for the County to place a 4-H <br />Summer Program Assistant under the county payroll. All funding for <br />this position would be provided from Lee County 4-H funds, which are <br />furnished through the United Way of Lee County. The only cost to Lee <br />003 <br />3 <br />
