0 e00K 16 veSf 16 14 <br />STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />COUNTY OF LEE <br />EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT <br />THIS EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT ("the Agreement"), made and entered <br />into as of the 1st day of May, 1995, by and between the COUNTY OF <br />LEE, one of the counties of the State of North Carolina, and a body <br />both politic and corporate, hereinafter referred to as "County", as <br />party of the first part, and WILLIAM K. COWAN, hereinafter referred <br />to as "Manager", as party of the second party. <br />RECITALS: <br />1. The County desires to continue to employ the services of <br />William K. Cowan as County Manager of the County of Lee as provided <br />by North Carolina General Statute 153A-81. <br />2. The County, in consideration of Mr. Cowan's past service <br />as County Manager, desires to provide certain benefits, establish <br />certain conditions of employment, and to set working conditions of <br />said Manager. <br />3. It is the desire of the County to (a) retain the services <br />of Manager and to provide inducement for him to remain in such <br />employment, (b) to make possible full work productivity by assuring <br />.Manager's morale and peace of mind with respect to future security, <br />and (c) to provide a just means for terminating Manager's services <br />at such time as he may be unable to discharge his duties due to <br />disability or when the County may desire to otherwise terminate his <br />employment. <br />4. Manager desires to continue employment as County Manager <br />of said County. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the premises, the mutual <br />covenants contained herein, and other good and valuable <br />consideration, the sufficiency of which is hereby acknowledged, the <br />County and the Manager agrees follows: <br />SECTION 1. DUTIES <br />County hereby agrees to employ William K. Cowan as County <br />Manager of said County to perform the functions and duties <br />specified in North Carolina General Statute 153A-82 and to perform <br />such other legally permissible and proper duties and functions as <br />the County shall from time to time assign. <br />SECTION 2. TERM <br />(A) The manager shall serve at the pleasure of the County as <br />provided in North Carolina General statute 153A-81 and nothing in <br />
