a~b~ 16 . c: 62 <br />to do everything within their power to oppose the Food and Drug <br />Administration's efforts to hurt the tobacco industry. <br />We also urge them to work with other members of the U.S. House <br />of Representatives and to Senate to stop any further regulation of <br />tobacco. <br />Commissioner Reives moved to approve the above Resolution. <br />Commissioner Cox seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Moretz, Reives, Stafford and <br />Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a Resolution of support for the Cape Fear <br />River Program. County Manager William Cowan asked the Board to <br />consider the following Resolution: <br />R E S O L U T I O N <br />The Lee County Board of Commissioners endorses the request of the <br />Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority for the sponsor of a Bill <br />through the General Assembly in the amount of $200,000 for a special <br />appropriation to fund the Cape Fear River Program through the Center <br />for Marine Science Research at the University of North Carolina at <br />Wilmington. <br />WHEREAS, current proposed standards affecting point source <br />dischargers, primarily large manufacturing facilities, are based on <br />previous data which is inconclusive and not complete; and <br />WHEREAS, the project description allows for the placement of <br />fifteen (15) sampling stations throughout the Lower Cape Fear River <br />for uniform collection of data; and <br />WHEREAS, the N.C. Division of Environmental Management is <br />pursing the development of a consistent plan for basin wide water <br />quality testing and monitoring in the Cape Fear River Basin; and <br />WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners are promoting the <br />establishment of a consistent testing and monitoring plan for the <br />Cape Fear River; and <br />WHEREAS, more realistic and logical future effluent limitations <br />for users of the river can best be determined and imposed from <br />uniform, accurate data; and <br />003 <br />3 <br />
