® nog <br />800 16 F;,G~ 1.58 <br />MINUTES OF THE WORK SESSION <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />V, <br />AUGUST 14, 1995 <br />The work session of the Board of Commissioners for the County of <br />Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 7:30 A.M. in the Gordon A. <br />Wicker Community Conference Room at the Lee County Government Center, <br />106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina. Commissioners' present <br />were Jimmie M. Cox; John R. Dossenbach, Jr.; F. Hubert Garner; Bertha <br />L. Matthews; J. Douglas Moretz and Robert T. Reives. Commissioner <br />Gordon A. Wicker was absent due to sickness. <br />Chairman Garner presided and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />County Attorney K. R. Hoyle delivered the invocation. <br />The Board considered approval of the agenda. Commissioner <br />Matthews moved to approve the agenda as printed. Commissioner Reives <br />seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Moretz and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board discussed an abandonment petition for the closure of a <br />portion of Lee's Chapel Road. Sanford-Lee County Airport Authority <br />Chairman Herbert Hincks told the Board a portion of Lee's Chapel Road <br />would need to be closed due to construction of the new airport. <br />Chairman Garner discussed with Mr. Hincks and various other <br />Department of Transportation personnel that were present for the <br />meeting concerns he had concerning safety on Ferrell Road. <br />Representatives from the Department of Transportation told the Board <br />Ferrell Road was sub-standard according to Department of <br />Transportation specifications and there was only a small amount of <br />local funds available at this time for road construction. After some <br />discussion County Manager William Cowan was instructed to set up a <br />meeting with members of the Department of Transportation, Senator <br />Fred Hobbs and the Lee County Board of Commissioners to discuss ways <br />to obtain money from the State for this state road improvement. <br />The Board discussed a request for the State of North Carolina to <br />make improvements to the building housing the Driver's License <br />Office, Highway Patrol office and other State agencies.
