Commissioner Moretz seconded <br />the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Moretz and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered scheduling a public hearing for an <br />abandonment petition for the closure of a portion of Lee's Chapel <br />Road. Commissioner Reives moved to hold a public hearing for the <br />next regular scheduled meeting of September 25, 1995, at 7:00 p.m. <br />Commissioner Dossenbach seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, and Reives <br />Nay: Moretz <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a five to one <br />vote. <br />The Board considered a request from the Board of Elections to <br />upgrade voter tabulator machines. Mr. George Whitaker, Chairman of <br />the Lee County Board of Elections asked the Board to approve <br />$7,436.00 to upgrade the thirteen (13) optical scan machines the <br />County purchase in 1992. Mr. Shelby Thomas, owner of Election <br />Products, Inc. (EPI) told the Board he would upgrade all machines to <br />1995 standards at a cost of $72.00 per unit plus $293.00 <br />transportation cost to Virginia, for a total of $7,649.10. After <br />much discussion Commissioner Reives moved to approve $7,649.10 to <br />upgrade the thirteen optical scan machines from the Board of <br />Elections with the condition that the machines will carry new <br />equipment warranty's and the accuracy of the machines will be <br />verified in the November 7, 1995 election. Commissioner Matthews <br />seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews and Moretz <br />Nay: Reives <br />vote. <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a five to one <br />Mr. Bob Anderson, Chairman of The Lee County Citizens of <br />Property Reevaluation and Tax Reform, Inc. presented the Board with <br />petitions bearing 5,037 signatures and outlining seven (7) areas of <br />concern his organization had. He thanked the Board for lowering the <br />tax rate from 84 cents per one hundred dollar to 68 cents per one <br />hundred dollar and wants to see it go down more next year. <br />4 <br />
