003 <br />BOOK 16 F;',Sf 180 <br />approve the following proclamation: <br />WHEREAS, hospice volunteers and staff provide a special kind of <br />caring for those in our community who are terminally ill; and <br />WHEREAS, hospices helped meet the medical, emotional and <br />spiritual needs of more than 340,000 terminally ill adults and children <br />across the National last year alone; and <br />WHEREAS, hospice focuses on the entire family; and <br />WHEREAS, hospice in the United States has flourished from one <br />program in 1974 to more than 2,500 today; and <br />WHEREAS, hospice affirms life through compassionate care; and <br />and <br />WHEREAS, hospice has served the people of Lee County since 1986; <br />WHEREAS, an increase in public awareness and understanding of <br />hospice care will better serve the families of our community who are <br />faced with a terminal illness. <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Lee County, North Carolina, will <br />join the hundreds of cities, counties and states in observing the month <br />of November as National Hospice Month in Lee County. We will actively <br />encourage the support and participation of friends, neighbors, <br />colleagues, and fellow citizens in associated hospice activities and <br />programs now and throughout the year. <br />Commissioner Reives seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Moretz, Reives and <br />Wicker <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a special order relating to public hearings. <br />Chairman Garner asked the Board to consider a special order that would <br />be used for public hearings. Commissioner Cox moved to approve the <br />following resolution: <br />RESOLVED: That the rules governing the conduct of the public <br />hearing on to be held at 7:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as <br />it may be reached on the agenda on in the commissioners, <br />Room, First Floor, Lee County Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, <br />Sanford, North Carolina, shall be as follows: <br />1.
