M <br />001 <br />BOOK 16 21 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * <br />MONDAY, OCTOBER 16, 1995 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County <br />of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 4:00 p.m. in the <br />Commissioners Room, Lee County Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, <br />Sanford, North Carolina. Commissioners' present were Jimmie M. Cox; <br />John R. Dossenbach, Jr.; F. Hubert Garner; Bertha L. Matthews; J. <br />Douglas Moretz and Robert T. Reives. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker was <br />absent due to illness. <br />Chairman Garner presided and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />County Attorney K. R. Hoyle delivered the invocation. <br />The Board considered drafts' of the September 25, 1995 special <br />meeting; September 25, 1995 regular meeting and October 2, 1995 regular <br />meeting. Commissioner Reives asked that a change be made to the <br />minutes of the regular meeting for September 25, 1995, of which <br />Commissioner Moretz opposed. After much discussion Commissioner <br />Moretz moved to approve the minutes' as the official records of said <br />meetings. Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion, and upon a vote, <br />the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews and Moretz <br />Nay: Reives <br />vote. <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been approved by a five to one <br />commissioner Reives asked that the record show this was the first time <br />a Board member was not allowed to correct minutes during a meeting. <br />The Board considered the appointment of a committee to study <br />school funding as it relates to purpose, function and project. At the <br />September 25, 1995, meeting Commissioner Moretz proposed a committee be <br />formed to study the above, which was approved by a six to one vote. <br />After further discussion Commissioner Reives moved the seven members of <br />the Board of Commissioners sit as that committee, with the Board of <br />Education selecting whomever they wished. At the October 9, 1995, work <br />session Commissioner Moretz presented a list of several names from the <br />private sector to the Board for consideration to serve on this <br />committee.
