BOOK 16 t~r.~G 23 <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Moretz and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a resolution to declare priority of <br />projects to support projects currently listed in The Transportation <br />Improvement Program 1997-2003. County Manager William Cowan told the <br />Board this list of priority of projects was presented and discussed <br />at the last Economic Development meeting held at the Chamber of <br />Commerce, with representatives from the Department of Transportation <br />present. Commissioner Dossenbach moved to approve the following: <br />RESOLUTION DECLARING PRIORITY OF PROJECTS <br />WHEREAS, the Sanford Board of Aldermen, the Lee County Board of <br />Commissioners and the Broadway Town Commissioners fully support the <br />projects currently listed in The Transportation Improvement Program <br />1997-2003; and <br />WHEREAS, each government body by a separate resolution endorses <br />the following projects for scheduling reconsideration; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lee County Commissioners <br />that: <br />The following projects deserve priority consideration by the <br />North Carolina Department of Transportation in the <br />Transportation Improvement Program: <br />1. The 421 bypass around Sanford should be placed on the <br />schedule. <br />2. Improvements at Nash Street and Bragg Street should be <br />added to increase safety and access to the schools and to <br />industry. <br />3. Improvements to Fields Drive and Evergreen Street should be <br />added to improve access to the hospital. <br />4. Improvements to Main Street North in Broadway should be <br />added to improve traffic flow in that area. <br />5. The widening and straightening of Lee's Chapel Road and <br />Farrell Road is needed. <br />The following enhancements deserve priority consideration by the <br />North Carolina Department of Transportation in the <br />Transportation Improvement Program: <br />004 <br />4 <br />
