005 <br />13UO S ,fr 338 <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Groce, Matthews, Moretz and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a resolution creating the Lee County Council for Women. <br />Ms. Catherine R. Reiger from the North Carolina Department of Administration for the <br />N.C. Council for Women was present and discussed this resolution with the Board. She <br />told the Board the state council's main goal is to create a local council in every county <br />of the state. Commissioner Matthews moved approval of the following: <br />RESOLUTION CREATING THE LEE COUNTY <br />COUNCIL FOR WOMEN <br />WHEREAS, the women of Lee County are a valuable resource for growth and <br />development of Lee County; and <br />WHEREAS, women represent over 50% of the population in Lee County; and <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of County <br />Commissioners does hereby establish the Lee County Council for Women for the <br />purpose of working to assess the needs of women, educate the public concerning these <br />needs and plan programs to address these needs. <br />Section I. That membership on the Council shall consist of 12 to 15 <br />citizens of Lee County appointed for staggered three-year terms, and <br />Section 2. That membership on the Council shall consist of citizens <br />representative of the ages, races, economic levels, and occupations of all residents of <br />Lee County. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council shall report to the Lee <br />County Board of Commissioners their findings and progress annually. <br />Commissioner Reives seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Groce, Matthews, Moretz and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />4 <br />
