® 002 <br />a1~o~ 16 °n~,~ 39? <br />MAKING NC TB-FREE WEEK <br />WHEREAS, the Governor has proclaimed June 10-14, 1996 as "Making NC TB- <br />Free Week" and <br />WHEREAS, TB cases have declined greatly as a nation and state; and <br />WHEREAS, despite the overall decrease in cases, the number of cases among the <br />25-44 age group has gone up significantly; and <br />WHEREAS, here in Lee County we had 6 cases of TB reported in 1993, 5 cases <br />reported in 1995 and 3 cases as of May 1, 1996; and <br />WHEREAS, there are currently 59 persons in Lee County on preventive <br />medicine. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Lee County Board of Commissioners proclaim June <br />10-14, 1996 as "Making NC TB-Free Week". <br />Commissioner Moretz seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Matthews, Moretz and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a resolution requesting the State of North Carolina accept <br />responsibility of Medicaid programs. Commissioner Cox moved to approve the following: <br />RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, Lee County is a political subdivision of North Carolina which is <br />dedicated to the principles of accountability and good government; and ' <br />WHEREAS, the increase in unfunded mandates has placed a severe financial <br />burden on Lee County and its tax payers; and <br />WHEREAS, since fiscal year 1991-92, Lee County has experienced an increase of <br />111% in the local share of Medicaid funding. Further, in the 1996-97 budget year, Lee <br />County faces a 19% increase in the County's share for the Medicaid Program. <br />WHEREAS, as a result of dramatic increases in Medicaid and other social <br />programs, 13 cents of next fiscal year's tax rate will be absorbed in the funding of social <br />programs; and <br />2 <br />
