[i] <br />BOOK 16 na 666 <br />0002 <br />The Board considered approval of the agenda. Commissioner Matthews moved <br />approval of the agenda as printed. Commissioner Cox seconded the motion, and upon a <br />vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Groce, Matthews, Moretz and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a resolution in support of the Sanford "First Night" <br />Celebration. Ms. Judy Womack gave a brief report on this first time New Year's Eve <br />celebration. Commissioner Reives moved approval of the following: <br />"FIRST NIGHT" RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners seeks to insure that <br />downtown Sanford (Lee County) remains the cultural, financial, governmental service and <br />retail center of our community; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina Main Street Resource Team endorses Sanford's <br />interest in developing a "First Night" celebration; and <br />WHEREAS, the "First Night" celebration provides an alcohol free alternative to <br />traditional New Year's Eve celebrations for the entire family; and <br />WHEREAS, the "First Night" celebration builds a sense of community through <br />the shared experience of the festival; and <br />WHEREAS, the "First Night" celebration promotes an appreciation of the <br />cultural diversity of the City of Sanford (Lee County). <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lee County Board of <br />Commissioners supports a Sanford (Lee County), North Carolina "First Night" <br />celebration to promote city/county pride, community spirit, and family fun. <br />Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion and upon a vote the, results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Groce, Matthews, Moretz and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />2 <br />
