a 0 <br />BOOK 16 PrsF 681 <br />Aldermen, Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Lee County <br />Committee of 100 Board of Directors, and the Lee County Economic Development <br />Corporation, that: <br />1. Governor Hunt and the members of the North Carolina Board of <br />Transportation are commended for their efforts to facilitate growth <br />and economic development through the adoption of the Transportation <br />2001 Program in 1994. <br />2. Governor Hunt and the North Carolina Board of Transportation are <br />respectfully requested to make the Sanford Bypass for US Highway <br />421 (TIP Project R-2417) a top priority in the Transportation 2001 <br />Program. <br />3. Governor Hunt and the North Carolina Board of Transportation are <br />requested to make the following additional improvements to the Lee <br />County Thoroughfare System: <br />A. Widen Lee Avenue to three lanes from Seawell Street to <br />Wilson Road and install lights at both intersections. <br />B. Widen Colon Road from US Highway 1 to Deep River <br />Road to support the continued development of the Lee <br />County Industrial Park. <br />C. Improve Fields Drive and Evergreen Street in order to <br />improve access to Central Carolina Hospital. <br />D. Widen and straighten Lee's Chapel Road and Farrell Road <br />to facilitate access to the new Sanford-Lee County Regional <br />Airport. <br />Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Groce, and Matthews <br />Nay: Moretz and Reives <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a five to two vote. <br />The Board considered a resolution to release Lee County's share of the economic <br />development monies from the State Budget Office to the Triangle J Council of <br />Governments. County Manager William Cowan told the Board The Triangle J Council of <br />Governments has received official notification that funds are available to assist the <br />economic development programs of this and the other seventeen regions.
