Commissioner Dossenbach seconded the <br />motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Dossenbach, Garner, Groce, Matthews, Moretz and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a joint resolution between Lee County, the Town of <br />Broadway, City of Sanford, Chamber of Commerce, Committee of 100 and the Lee <br />County Economic Development Corporation. County Manager William Cowan discussed <br />the resolution and answered questions of the Board. After some discussion Commissioner <br />Croce moved to approve the following: <br />JOINT RESOLUTION <br />Lee County Board of Commissioners, <br />Town of Broadway Board of Commissioners, <br />City of Sanford Board of Aldermen, <br />Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, <br />Lee County Committee of 100 Board of Directors, <br />Lee County Economic Development Corporation <br />WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners, Town of Broadway Board <br />of Commissioners, City of Sanford Board of Aldermen, Sanford Area Chamber of <br />Commerce Board of Directors, Lee County Committee of 100 Board of Directors, and the <br />Lee County Economic Development Corporation constitute the leadership for the citizens <br />of Broadway, Sanford and Lee County on matters relating to growth and economic <br />development, and; <br />WHEREAS, the above referenced community leaders unanimously agree that a <br />functional thoroughfare system is the cornerstone of viable economic growth and <br />development, and; <br />WHEREAS, the above referenced community leaders unanimously agree that the <br />lack of a bypass for US Highway 421 around Sanford constitutes the single greatest <br />impediment to growth and economic development in Lee County, and; <br />WHEREAS, the above referenced community leaders are unanimous in their <br />support of the Division of Highways efforts to improve this problem by constructing a <br />bypass for US Highway 421 around Sanford, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lee County Board of <br />Commissioners, Town of Broadway Board of Commissioners, City of Sanford Board of <br />2 <br />
