School Superintendent
Steve Wrenn told the Boards meetings will be held in the near future to give the citizens of
Broadway or anyone else a chance to make comments.
County Manager William Cowan went over two proposed payment options to
repay the bond sale project of $21,500,000. Schedule 1 projects a 15 year payment period
with $10,464,000 in interest payments. A tax rate increase of 7.3 cents over the next
three years would be necessary to finance the debt payment. Schedule 2 projects an 18
year payment period with $13,464,000 in interest payments, $3,000,000 more than the 15
year schedule. A tax rate increase of 5.7 cents over the next three years would be
necessary to finance this debt payment.
The Boards discussed per pupil allocation for current expenses for FY 1997-98.
County Manager William Cowan told the Boards the current per pupil allocation is $775
(8,574 students = $6,645,000). The Board of Education is asking for $800 per pupil
allocation for the upcoming year and $1,000 per pupil by the year 2000.
Discussion took place concerning capital outlay needs of the Board of Education
for FY 1997-98. Superintendent Steve Wrenn stated the Board of Education last year
asked for $800,000, received $500,000 and needed $800,000 for the upcoming year.
Discussion took place concerning public use of senior high school facilities.
Superintendent Steve Wrenn said the schools and County were working together with all
the facilities and had a good working relationship. Commissioner Reives expressed
concerns about the football field at Lee Senior and the POP Warner Football Team.
being no further business to come before the Boards, the meeting adjourned.
F.
