TiiCOl•,AS <br />TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 149T T Y, <br /> <br />The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State <br />of North Carolina, and members of the Lee County Board of Education, convened at 7:00 <br />p.m. in the Gordon A. Wicker Community Conference Room at the Lee County <br />Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina. Commissioners <br />present were Jimmie M. Cox; F. Hubert Garner, T. Ervin Mansfield; Bertha L. Matthews; <br />J. Douglas Moretz; Nathan E. Paschal and Robert T. Reives. Board of Education <br />members present were Randy Mann; Jan Perkinson; David Simpson; Joan Wagoner; <br />Frances Warner; James Womack and Phil Yarborough. <br />Chairman Garner presided and County Attorney K. R. Hoyle delivered the <br />invocation. <br />Board of Education Vice Chairman David Simpson reviewed bids received on <br />February 4, 5, 6 and 7, 1997, for Phase I options of the Long Range Facilities Plan, a copy <br />of which is attached to these minutes and by this reference made a part hereof. Bids for <br />these projects were approved by the Board of Education at their February 10, 1997, <br />regular meeting. <br />Mr. Simpson also discussed with the Boards status of the Broadway School site. <br />He told the Boards that plans to forego renovations at this school and possibly build a new <br />school, site undetermined, were being discussed. The Board of Education has not decided <br />which way they planned to go on this matter. <br />The status of the gymnasium and auditorium at the Deep River School site, after <br />completion of the new school, were discussed. Concerns were expressed concerning the <br />demolition of the gymnasium and auditorium at this facility by some of the <br />Commissioners. Randy Mann told the Boards the old building would be removed because <br />of safety and aesthetic concerns. <br />The status of the Deep River School sewer system were discussed. Concerns <br />were expressed by the Commissioners as to the size of 2" pipe to be used in this three <br />mile project. <br />
