Commissioner Paschal <br />seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a resolution to allow County employees to convert excess <br />annual leave to sick leave. Personnel Officer Patsy Rogers told the Board that in 1993 <br />state legislation was passed to allow the conversion of excess annual vacation leave to sick <br />leave for state employees and teachers. Counties have the right to authorize the same <br />procedure for employees if they wish. If approved, Section 8 of Article VI of the Lee <br />County Personnel Policy would need to be amended. Commissioner Cox moved approval <br />of the following: <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING <br />CONVERSION OF ANNUAL VACATION LEAVE TO SICK LEAVE <br />WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners expresses its intent to <br />provide sick leave benefit policies for county employees consistent with a policy adopted <br />by the 1993 General Assembly with regard to the conversion of state employees' and <br />teachers' excess annual vacation leave to sick leave; and <br />WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners hereby adopts and <br />implements the following Annual Vacation Leave Conversion Policy: <br />At the end of each benefit year on January I any County employee <br />with accrued annual vacation leave in excess of 30 days or 240 <br />hours shall have this leave converted to sick leave. This converted <br />sick leave shall be used in the same manner as accrued sick leave <br />and may be used for authorized sick leave purposes. And, like <br />regular sick leave may be counted toward creditable service at <br />retirement up to a maximum of 12 total leave days per year of service. <br />3 <br />
