Commissioner Paschal
seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives
Nay: None
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered a resolution to allow County employees to convert excess
annual leave to sick leave. Personnel Officer Patsy Rogers told the Board that in 1993
state legislation was passed to allow the conversion of excess annual vacation leave to sick
leave for state employees and teachers. Counties have the right to authorize the same
procedure for employees if they wish. If approved, Section 8 of Article VI of the Lee
County Personnel Policy would need to be amended. Commissioner Cox moved approval
of the following:
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING
CONVERSION OF ANNUAL VACATION LEAVE TO SICK LEAVE
WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners expresses its intent to
provide sick leave benefit policies for county employees consistent with a policy adopted
by the 1993 General Assembly with regard to the conversion of state employees' and
teachers' excess annual vacation leave to sick leave; and
WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners hereby adopts and
implements the following Annual Vacation Leave Conversion Policy:
At the end of each benefit year on January I any County employee
with accrued annual vacation leave in excess of 30 days or 240
hours shall have this leave converted to sick leave. This converted
sick leave shall be used in the same manner as accrued sick leave
and may be used for authorized sick leave purposes. And, like
regular sick leave may be counted toward creditable service at
retirement up to a maximum of 12 total leave days per year of service.
3
