o 0- <br />BOOK 16 PACE 811 <br />and accessible library, increased parking, improved dining facilities, and access for persons <br />with disabilities; and <br />WHEREAS, the planned capital project has been approved by the UNC-CH <br />Board of Trustees and is rated as one of the University's highest capital priorities, and it <br />also is a legislative priority for the UNC Board of Governors. <br />NOW, BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, THAT by way of this resolution the <br />Lee County Board of Commissioners fully and enthusiastically encourages the 1997 North <br />Carolina General Assembly to appropriate $16.1 million to fund this urgently needed <br />capital renovation and expansion project. <br />Commissioner Reives seconded the motion, and upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: Moretz <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a grant application for the Hispanic Task Force of Lee <br />County. Ms. Cindy Dillon Teel, Executive Director of the Hispanic Task Force, answered <br />questions of the Board. Commissioner Reives moved to approve the grant application for <br />the Hispanic Task Force of Lee County and for Lee County to act as a "pass through" <br />agency for this grant. Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: Moretz <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a six to one vote. <br />The Board considered a request from the North Carolina Museum of Art asking <br />Lee County to sign as authorized agent of the owner of the painting "Kinfolk of Virginia <br />Dare". After some discussion Commissioner Mansfield moved approval of the request for <br />Lee County to sign as authorized agent of the owner of the painting. Commissioner <br />Reives seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a Community Services Block Grant for Johnston-Lee <br />Community Action to apply for their FY 1996 Application for Funding. Lee County will <br />act as a "pass through" agency for this block grant if approved. After some discussion <br />3 <br />
