BOOK 16 PnE 828 <br />legislation to grant all counties the authority to choose from a menu of local revenue <br />sources that each county may levy if the levy is first approved by an affirmative vote of a <br />majority of the qualified voters of the respective county. <br />FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that a certified copy of this resolution be <br />forwarded to Governor James B. Hunt, and members of the North Carolina General <br />Assembly. <br />Commissioner Cox seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered approval to the amount spent for the purchase of a school <br />site near Tramway. Commissioner Paschal moved to bring this matter from a previous <br />tabled motion. Commissioner Reives seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously and the Board <br />discussed the matter. School Superintendent Steve Wrenn told the Board that the Board <br />of Education has obtained options to purchase two parcels of land on Center Church Road <br />as the site for the proposed Southwest Elementary School. They are asking for an <br />appropriation of $232,814 to cover the cost of this bond anticipation note. After much <br />discussion Commissioner Paschal moved to approve the $232,814 purchase price for the <br />proposed school site. Chairman Garner seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Garner, Mansfield, Matthews and Paschal <br />Nay: Cox, Moretz and Reives <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a four to three vote. <br />The Board heard a presentation from Mr. Landon Barefoot from Cencom Partners. <br />He discussed with the Board the recent merger of the company and improvements made in <br />service over the past several months and answered various questions from the Board. <br />The Board heard a presentation from Mr. Michael Brown, Coordinator with the <br />Lee County Community Service Work Program. Mr. Brown gave a report on what his <br />agency does for Lee County and answered questions from the Board. <br />3 <br />
