Health <br />Director Phyllis Lowry told the Board the Lee County Health Department, in <br />collaboration with the Coalition to Improve the Quality of Life in Lee County, has applied <br />for a community grant to reduce minority infant mortality. The total grant is $30,000, <br />with the Health Department receiving $20,000 and the Coalition receiving $10,000. The <br />Health Department will use these funds to support a Community Health Assistant to work <br />with Hispanic women. The Coalition will use their portion of the funds to support an <br />outreach worker to minority women identified as living in high-risk areas of Sanford and <br />Lee County. Commissioner Matthews moved to approve the grant to support the two <br />above mentioned projects in Lee County as presented. Commissioner Cox seconded the <br />motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a fee schedule for Tattoo Artists. Health Director Phyllis <br />Lowry told the Board the Lee County Board of Health was recommending a new fee <br />schedule of $100.00 for Tattoo Artists. Commissioner Cox moved to approve the Health <br />Board's recommendation of $100.00 for Tattoo Artists. Commissioner Paschal seconded <br />the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />County Attorney K. R. Hoyle gave the following report concerning a recent <br />lawsuit between Lee County and various Lee County EMS workers: <br />"The civil action brought by Shelley L. Amen, Audrey K. Baker, <br />Christopher A. Blackburn, Jackie G. Craig, James A. Fallin, Dorene P. <br />Fallin, Deborah M. Holland, Harry Franklin Knepp, III. Jerry M. <br />Lemmond, Marc T. Padjo, Jeffrey S. Payne, Renada Murphy Schantz <br />and Walter J. Woodcock, Jr., as plaintiff's against Lee County being <br />case no. 1:96CV00649 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District <br />of North Carolina asserting claims arising under the Fair Labor <br />Standards Act has been settled. Under the terms of the settlement, <br />Lee County, in exchange for a release of claims and dismissal of the <br />action, paid $20,386 to the plaintiffs, $8,750 to plaintiffs' attorneys <br />fees, and $350 in court cost. A Consent Order of Dismissal was <br />entered March 28, 1997, and final distribution of checks to the <br />4 <br />
