0 8005 16 FADE 9.9 0 2 <br />MINUTES OF THE JOINT MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />AND <br />THE BOARD OF EDUCATION <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br /> <br />WEDNESDAY, MAY 14, 1997 <br /># # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # <br />Ajoint meeting of the Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education for the <br />County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 7:00 p.m. in the Gordon A. Wicker <br />Community Conference Room, Lee County Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, <br />Sanford, North Carolina. Commissioners present were Jimmie M. Cox, F. Hubert Garner, <br />T. Ervin Mansfield; Bertha L. Matthews; J. Douglas Moretz; Nathan E. Paschal and <br />Robert T. Reives. Board of Education members present were: Jan Perkinson; James <br />Womack; David Simpson; Randy Mann; Joan Wagoner; Frances Warner and Phil <br />Yarborough. School Superintendent Steve Wrenn; School Board Attorney Jimmy Love; <br />County Manager Bill Cowan; and County Attorney K.R. Hoyle were also present. <br />Chairman Garner presided and the following business was discussed: <br />County Attorney K.R. Hoyle delivered the invocation. <br />Pursuant to a letter to Jan Perkinson from Chairman Garner outlining concerns of <br />the Board of Commissioners, the following questions were presented to the Board of <br />Education and answered accordingly: <br />1. What happens if the $1 million loan/advance is inadequate? <br />School Board plans to obtain a grant anticipation note that would only be <br />used if needed with no risk to the County. It would be funded by the State <br />bond monies when they become available. School Board would have to <br />pay interest on what is used. <br />1 What is the Board of Education's position on Jonesboro School over the <br />next 3 - 5 and 10 year period? <br />Jonesboro Elementary School is currently a Category 4 school. $375,000 <br />was spent at the site to provide a better situation for the students. <br />Jonesboro is a safety net in the school plan. Plans are to look at the <br />enrollment numbers at the beginning of the 1997-98 school year and see if <br />the new school sites are adequate to house those enrolled. If so, Jonesboro <br />
