E610 <br />BooK 17 Nrst 142 <br />007 <br />County Manager William Cowan gave a report to the Board on the Lee <br />County/City of Sanford Land Use Plan Final Draft Outline. No action was taken on the <br />matter. <br />County Manager William Cowan discussed with the Board a letter he received <br />from Dr. Marvin Joyner of Central Carolina Community College concerning a request to <br />hold a joint meeting of the Board of Commissioners and the Central Carolina Community <br />College Board of Trustees. The joint meeting is requested to discuss the appropriation of <br />$115,000 of additional money needed in next year's budget and other matters of interest <br />concerning long range planning. After some discussion Commissioner Reives moved to <br />appropriate in next year's budget $115,000 to Central Carolina Community College. <br />Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board requested a list of concerns and long range planning issues the Community <br />College wants to discuss prior to setting up a joint meeting. <br />The Board discussed hiring procedures for department heads by the County <br />Manager. No action was taken on the matter. <br />The Board considered a resolution honoring the Women's Golf Team from Lee <br />County Senior High School for winning the North Carolina High School Athletic <br />Association Championship in Chapel Hill on October 27 and 28, 1997. Commissioner <br />Reives moved approval of the following: <br />WHEREAS, the Women's Golf Team from Lee County Senior High School <br />won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Championship in a tournament <br />held at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill on October 27 and 28, 1997; and <br />WHEREAS, the four members of the team are Ashley Bayles, Dani Heimbecker, <br />Jessie Hunter, all of whom are in the junior class and Courtney Pomeranz, a member of <br />the sophomore class, and their coach Mack Herndon; and <br />WHEREAS, the quality of play by the team in the state championship tournament <br />was such that their score was twelve strokes better than their nearest competitor in a field <br />of thirteen teams and all four members of the team placed within the top eight participants <br />in the tournament and had the four players from Lee County Senior High School been <br />allowed to compete as two teams, they would have finished first and second; and <br />7 <br />
