Eiov 17 15- 010-7 <br />Section 1. To retiring members of the Lee County Sheriff's Office <br />provided they have qualified for retirement with the North Carolina <br />Local Government Retirement System and have fifteen (15) years <br />continuous service with the County of Lee (full time, sworn) immediately <br />prior to said retirement date, or <br />Section 2. To surviving spouses or children of members of the Lee <br />County Sheriffs Office killed in the line of duty. <br />Commissioner Mansfield seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz and Paschal <br />Nay: Reives <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a six to one vote. <br />Mr. Reives stated he had concerns about giving a "working firearm" to a family member. <br />The Board considered the purchase of new patrol vehicles for the Sheriffs <br />Department. Sheriff Billy Bryant asked the Board to approve the purchase of eight 1998 <br />automobiles for a total of $157,300 for his department. He stated that $160,000 had been <br />budgeted in the 1997/98 budget for these purchases. Commissioner Reives moved to <br />approve the purchase of eight new 1998 automobiles for the Sheriffs Department at a <br />total of $157,300. Commissioner Matthews seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a proposed Lease Agreement between the County of Lee <br />and The North Carolina Agricultural Foundation, Inc. Cooperative Extension Director <br />John Hall asked the Board to consider the proposed Lease Agreement for 12.663 acres of <br />land on Tramway Road (Highway 78), donated by Mrs. Ruby McSwain, to construct a <br />facility to house the Lee County Cooperative Extension Service and other agricultural <br />related agencies. After some discussion Commissioner Mansfield moved to approve the <br />Lease Agreement between the County of Lee and The North Carolina Agricultural <br />Foundation, Inc. Commissioner Cox seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results <br />were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />5 <br />
