That it congratulates him for recently being inducted into the ECSU <br />Athletic Hall of Fame. <br />Section 3. That this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting and <br />a duly authenticated copy be presented to Richard (Dick) Branch by the Chairman <br />with suitable ceremony. <br />Commissioner Reives seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board heard a presentation from Durham County Attorney Chuck Kitchen <br />concerning the "First Responders" program he helped start in Alamance County. Reid <br />Cagle, Chief of the Lemon Springs Fire Department spoke on behalf of the volunteer fire <br />chiefs in Lee County stating they are not interested in becoming First Responders due to <br />the amount of time it takes to become certified. Chairman Garner appointed a committee <br />of Commissioners Cox, Mansfield and Moretz, a County volunteer fire chief, Pat Garner <br />from the Rescue Squad, and City Fire Chief Wayne Barber to study the matter, and bring a <br />recommendation back to the Board of Commissioners. <br />The Board considered a resolution authorizing the award of service side arms to <br />surviving spouses or children of deceased or qualifying retiring Lee County Deputy <br />Sheriffs. Sheriff Billy Bryant asked the Board to consider and approve this resolution. <br />Commissioner Cox moved approval of the following resolution: <br />WHEREAS, General Statute 20-187.2 allows governing bodies for county <br />governments to award the badge and service side arm worn by a deputy sheriff to the <br />surviving spouse, or in the event such member dies unsurvived by a spouse, surviving <br />children or members of Lee County Sheriffs Office killed in the line of duty or who are <br />members of such agency at the time of their death, and retiring members of such agency; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Commissioners for the County of Lee presently award such <br />badges and desires to award such service side arms to family members of deceased or <br />qualifying retiring full time sworn members of the Lee County Sheriffs Office. <br />NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Commissioners for the County of Lee <br />that the service side arm of members of the Lee County Sheriff's Office shall be awarded <br />in the following circumstances: <br />4 <br />
