007 <br />boo{ 17 i11 - 202 <br />An Ordinance to Amend the Zoning Ordinance of Lee County <br />North Carolina <br />Pertaining to Telecommunication Towers <br />BE IT ORDAINED, by the Board of Commissioners of Lee County, North Carolina that <br />the Zoning Ordinance of Lee County, North Carolina be, and it hereby is, amended as <br />follows: <br />Section 1. Amend Article VII, District Regulations, Section 3 Table of Permitted Uses by <br />inserting in alphabetical order the following use: <br />"Telecommunication towers" <br />Said use shall be permitted in particular zoning districts as a Special Use upon approval by <br />the Lee County Planning Board indicated by placing an "S" beside it under the columns <br />headed by RA, RR, RM, CS, HC, LI, and HI. <br />The use "radio or television tower" succeeded by "S" beside it under the columns headed <br />by RA, RR, RM, CS, HC, LI, and HI shall be deleted from the Table of Permitted Uses. <br />Section 2. Amend Article VII, District Regulations, Section 4.3 Regulations for Special <br />Use Permits by deleting from the "Use: Public Utilities" subsection the references to <br />"radio or TV towers." <br />Section 3. Amend Article VIII, District Regulations, Section 4.3 Regulations for Special <br />Use Permits by adding a new "Use: Telecommunication Towers " as follows: <br />"Use: Telecommunication Towers <br />A. Special Use Districts <br />RA's, RR's, RM's, CS, HC, LI, HI <br />B. Purpose and Intent <br />It is the intent of Lee County to allow telecommunication towers for mobile telephone <br />services and other radio and television information services which provide for the needs of <br />its citizens while minimizing adverse visual and operational effects of such towers through <br />careful design, placement, and screening; to avoid potential damage to adjacent properties <br />from tower failure and falling ice; and to maximize the use of any existing towers and to <br />reduce the number of new towers which are needed. Additionally, it is the intent of this <br />subsection to encourage the co-location of antennas on existing towers in the County's <br />
