Mr. <br />Cowan told the Board that no county funds would be required for this project. <br />Commissioner Garner moved to approve authorization to take bids on the renovation <br />and construction of the Criminal Justice building. Commissioner Moretz seconded the <br />motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board heard a report on space needs and parking at the new Lee County <br />Courthouse. Clerk of Court Lucille York, Chairperson of the committee appointed to <br />study the matter, went over prints showing all courtrooms and conference rooms <br />currently available at the courthouse. She told the Board there was a large open space <br />in one area of the courthouse that could be renovated into two small conference rooms. <br />Extra furniture currently housed in the basement of the courthouse could be used to <br />furnish these rooms. Public Works Director Kenny Cole estimated construction costs <br />at $3,200. Reserved parking signs in the parking lots were also discussed. After some <br />discussion, Commissioner Reives moved approval of the following: <br />• construct two small conference rooms from available open space in new <br />courthouse <br />• place "stand up" reserved signs in parking lots for Judges, Register of Deeds <br />and Clerk of Court <br />• designate an extra parking space for Judges in the Sheriff's Department lot <br />• designate a parking space for the jail van in the Sheriff's Department lot <br />• eliminate two parking spaces from upper parking lot that DA's office <br />currently uses <br />• designate four spaces for DA's office in lower parking lot <br />• block off brick courtyard between two buildings to eliminate vehicles from <br />driving on brick walkway <br />Commissioner Garner seconded the above motion.
