0 booK 1'7 Fret 243 0 X03 <br />WHEREAS, that declaration launched a movement that changed this nation and <br />the hopes of its women irrevocably; and <br />WHEREAS, the resulting Women's Rights Movement has had profound and <br />undeniable impact on all aspects of American life, and <br />WHEREAS, children of today have lives far richer and far fairer as a direct <br />result of the Women's Rights Movement; and <br />WHEREAS, the new millennium will find an ever-increasing need for both <br />women and men to share in the fundamental responsibilities for our national life and the <br />blessings that may result from full and equal participation in society: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that 1998 will be recognized and <br />celebrated as the 150°i anniversary of the Women's Rights Movement under the <br />National theme, "Living in the Legacy: Women's Rights Movement 1848-1998 We <br />hereby call on all citizens to remember with gratitude those who have contributed to the <br />nation, where all have by right a position of equality, fairness, justice and freedom, in <br />the society of the United States of America. <br />Commissioner Garner seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Ave: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />At this time Ms. Cornelia Olive recognized the following ladies who were nominated <br />and selected by The Lee County Council for Women for outstanding leadership in the <br />community and presented each with a resolution: <br />Ruth Gurtis <br />Ruby McSwain <br />Jeanette Peace <br />Annie Laurie Pomeranz <br />Maria Power <br />Linda Roberts <br />Linda Rudeseal <br />Sarah Sherrill <br />Kathryn Waters <br />Lydia Tyson Winstead <br />The Board considered authorization to accept bids for improvements to the <br />Criminal Justice Building located on Makepeace Street.
