These funds may be disbursed during the FY 1998-99
and the FY 1999-2000 budget year. Local funds may be budgeted for rehabilitation
service delivery or administration by the county's planning consultant, based on the use
that will provide the most competitive application.
Commissioner Reives seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Paschal and Reives
Nay: None
The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered a rental agreement for office space in the Federal Building
to house the joint City/County Planning Agency. County Manager William Cowan
discussed the proposed agreement with the Board and answered questions. After some
discussion, Commissioner Garner moved to approve the rental agreement as presented.
Commissioner Paschal seconded the motion. After still further discussion, Commissioner
Garner withdrew his original motion and moved the matter be tabled until the next
meeting. Commissioner Reives seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as
follows:
Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Paschal and Reives
Nay: None
The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
Commissioner Reives asked for a report at the next meeting on how the joint City/County
Planning Agency is working out and also would like to look at any current joint
agreements between the City and County.
County Manager William Cowan discussed with the Board a proposed five-year
rental space agreement for property located at 206-208 S. Steele Street to house Juvenile
Probation. He told the Board the County is responsible for providing office space for this
agency, which is currently located in the Adult Probation building on Makepeace Street.
After some discussion, Mr. Cowan was instructed to try and negotiate a two-year rental
space agreement.
Mr. Cowan told the Board Commissioner Ed Paschal had offered to donate land
on S. Plank Road for a new forestry building. Forest Service representatives are looking
at the site and are to let Mr. Cowan know if the proposed site will be suitable for their
agency.
6
