® 01-3
17 COUNTY OF LEE
RESOLUTION
We all have a role to play in making certain that our children under age two are properly
immunized. That is because we all have much at stake in the fight to raise immunization rates.
Proper immunization lays a foundation for health, keeping children safe from deadly diseases and
saving the community money. Right now, childhood diseases still exist and put all of us at risk.
Preventable diseases such as whooping cough have been occurring throughout our
community to take responsibility by spreading the word about the need for proper immunization
by age two. The Lee County Board of Commissioners officially challenge all members of
Sanford/Lee County to participate in ensuring that all young children receive their immunizations
on time.
We hope to overcome barriers that make immunizing babies difficult. We need to educate
parents about the importance of early immunizations, encourage health care providers to increase
access to immunization services, and seek long-term policy changes that will ensure full
vaccination for all children by age two.
The week of April 19-25, 1998 has been declared National Infant Immunization Week to
help make sure that children have all their shots by the age of two.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of
Commissioners do hereby proclaim April 19-25, 1998, as:
INFANT IMMUNIZATION WEEK IN SANFORD LEE COUNTY
and encourage businesses, government agencies, community-based organizations, service groups,
and private citizens to spread the immunization message throughout our community. We also
encourage Sanford/Lee County health care providers and parents of young children to become
partners in the health care of children by ensuring immunization against preventable childhood
diseases at the appropriate age.
Adopted this day of April, 1998
Bertha Matthews, Chairman
ATTEST
a
ay el Lee, Clerk
