~i n <br />0 BOOK 17 PACF 3C7 <br />NURSING HOME WEEK <br />in Lee County and urge all citizens to honor and support employees of long term care <br />facilities who daily provide quality care to achieve the highest level of mental, physical and <br />psychosocial well-being to the residents of our facilities. <br />Commissioner Cox seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Chairperson Matthews told the Board that in January, 1997, the North Carolina <br />Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Social Services issued the first <br />Challenge For Children, asking every county Department of Social Services in North <br />Carolina to make foster care backlog reduction a top priority for the child welfare system <br />during 1997. She asked the Board to consider recognizing the Lee County Department of <br />Social Services for accepting the Challenge For Children, 1997 and for its commitment <br />to ensuring safe, permanent homes on a timely basis for abused and neglected children. <br />Commissioner Moretz moved to send a letter of recognition to the local Social Services <br />office. Commissioner Garner seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Chairperson Matthews told the Board that both meetings in June would be held in <br />the afternoon due to public hearings scheduled. <br />Commissioner Garner moved to go into closed session to give direction to the <br />County Manager concerning land acquisition and to hear a report from legal counsel <br />concerning the case of Thompson vs. Lee County. Commissioner Moretz seconded the <br />motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously and the Board <br />was in closed session. After completing business in closed session, Commissioner Moretz <br />moved to go out of closed session. Commissioner Garner seconded the motion, and upon <br />a vote, the results were as follows: <br />6 <br />
