BOOK' J7 PAGE -OZ- <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />j <br />MAY 4, 1998 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State <br />of North Carolina, convened at 8:00 a.m. in the Commissioners' Room, 106 Hillcrest <br />Drive, Sanford, North Carolina. Commissioners present were Jimmie M. Cox, F. Hubert <br />Garner, T. Ervin Mansfield, Bertha L. Matthews, J. Douglas Moretz, Nathan E. Paschal <br />and Robert T. Reives. <br />Chairperson Matthews presided and the following business was transacted: <br />Chairperson Matthews delivered the invocation. <br />The Board considered additional agenda items. Chairperson Matthews asked the <br />Board to consider (1) the acceptance of a grant for $10,000 for the Lee County Pesticide <br />Container Recycling Program, (2) the renaming of Watchacow Lane off Thomas Road, <br />and (3) a proclamation to declare the week of May I 1-17, 1998 as Nursing Home Week in <br />Lee County. County Manager William Cowan asked the Board to consider a closed <br />session to (1) discuss land acquisition and (2) hear a report from legal counsel on pending <br />litigation concerning the case of Thompson vs. Lee County. Commissioner Garner moved <br />to add the above mentioned items to the agenda. Commissioner Cox seconded the <br />motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Commissioner Cox moved to approve the consent agenda, which consisted of the <br />following items: <br />• minutes of the April 20, 1998 regular meeting <br />• request for NC Department of Transportation to conduct a traffic study <br />on Post Office Road <br />• budget amendment 9 05/04/98/23 (copy attached) <br />~n~ <br />
