Mr. Crumpton stated that
deputies can ticket and site individuals not obeying an ordinance — things an animal control officer
cannot do. His proposal will have the Sheriff's Department enforcing animal duties and the Health
Department responsible for the animal shelter. One additional person will need to be added to the
Sheriff's Department in order to complete the process. Mr. Crumpton will provide more detailed
information with cost estimates at the January 18, 2011 Commissioners' meeting. No action was taken.
Commissioner Womack read a prepared statement voicing his concerns (along with many
citizens) with the Lee County Board of Education over the October dismissal of Ashley Smithwick from
Southern Lee High School.
Commissioner Hayes discussed legislative goals and policies that will be presented at the
January 20 -21 Legislative Goals Conference. Commissioners were asked to review the proposed
legislative goals and policy statements provided to them by the North Carolina Association of County
Commissioners and discuss as an agenda item during the January 18, 2011 meeting.
Chairman Shook addressed the 2011 Commissioner Board appointments. The Board
appointments are attached and made a part of the minutes as presented.
With no further business to come before the Board, Commissioner Oldham moved to adjourn
the meeting. Upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Hayes, Oldham, Parks, Reives, Shook, and Womack
Nay: None
Absent: Paschal
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously and the meeting adjourned at
6:10 p.m. /I ,I
ATTEST:
h A.
