NORTH CAROLINA 27330 <br />JANUARY 25-26,2018 <br />The annual Board Retreat of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State of <br />North Carolina, convened at 5:30 p.m., Thursday January 25, 2018, In the meeting room at the <br />San Lee Park Nature Center, 760 Pumping Station Road, Sanford, North Carolina. Commissioners <br />attending included Amy M. Dalrymple, Kevin C. Dodson, Dr. Andre Knecht, Larry"Doc' Oldham, <br />Robert T. Reaves, Cameron W. Sharpe, and Timothy S. Sloan. Staffmembers in attendance were <br />County Manager John Crumpton, County Attorney Whitney Parrish, Finance Director Use Minter, <br />Community and Governmental Relations Manager Jamie Brown, Management Analyst Michael <br />Silverman, and Clerk to the Board Jennifer Gamble. <br />Chair Dalrymple called the Retreat to order. <br />Commissioner Oldham delivered the invocation. <br />At this time, Jamie Brown, Community and Governmental Relations Manager, led the Board <br />in an interactive discussion regarding the development of a county communications plan. This <br />discussion included a PowerPoint presentation surrounding the development of a county <br />communications plan and information regarding strategic visioning through tailored branding. The <br />presentation provided descriptions of key plan components, proposals for potential strategies and <br />tools to improve organization Identification. <br />Following the discussion regarding a county communications plan, at 8:05 p.m. Chair <br />Dalrymple announced the Retreat will recess until 9:00 a.m. the next day, Friday, January 261". <br />The Retreat reconvened on Friday, January 2611 at 9:00 a.m., and the following topics were <br />discussed: <br />K-14 Joint Eduoatlon Presentation — Dr. Andy Bryan, Superintendent of Lee County <br />Schools and Dr. Bud Marchant, President, Central Carolina Community College, spoke regarding <br />the prospect of a K-14 Education system in Lee County. Dr. Bryan stated that Lee County Schools <br />has a great partnership with the Community College with the 'More than a Diploma' initiative <br />created through Central Carolina Works. The cost to the County for creating a K-14 program, which <br />would guarantee that every graduate from 2018-2022 at least 2 years of free tuition, would be <br />$500,000 In 2018, $250,000 an 2019, $250,000 in 2020, and $250,000 in 2021.
