nox V mF Al 0 7
requested that Mr. Cowan be supplied a history of the current voting machines showing
repairs and any problems the Elections Office had encountered from the machines.
Board of Commission Chairperson Bert Matthewsjoined the meeting at this time.
Chairman Reives questioned the 5% increase in the Economic Development
Department (EDC) budget. Mr. Cowan told the Committee the current EDC Director
was hired at a higher salary than the previous Director and the clerical position in that
department had recently been reclassified.
Chairman Reives stated he was in opposition to the new Community Service
Coordinator position requested by Health Director Phyllis Lowry. The general concensus
of the Committee was to deny the request.
Chairman Reives stated he was in opposition to the $8,000 increase requested by
the Temple Theater. His recommendation was to approve the amount presented in the
proposed budget, $ 12,000. Commissioner Garner suggested the Temple Theater be given
$15,000 and the Lee County Arts Council be given $2,500. Chairperson Matthews
suggested the Temple Theater be given $15,000. Commissioners Mansfield and Moretz
suggested the Temple Theater remain at $12,000 this year and possibly look into
increasing their amount next year. After further discussion, the Committee recommended
the Temple Theater remain at $ 12,000 for FY 1998-99 and the Lee County Arts Council
receive $3,000.
Chairman Reives stated he did not agree with the proposed policy for the
replacement of County vehicles but did agree that some type of replacement policy needs
to be put in place. He was opposed to spending so much money for vehicles that would
only be driven in Lee County. Commissioner Moretz was in agreement with
Commissioner Reives. Mr. Cowan stated he would like to see a committee appointed to
look at some type of replacement policy.
The meeting recessed at this time for the 5:00 p.m. Board of Commissioners
Qu~ t --77- J
Robert T.
