suck 17 Po 410 019 <br />RECESSED MEETING <br />OF THE <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING <br />JUNE 22, 1998 <br />The recessed meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State <br />of North Carolina, convened at 3:30 p.m. on this date in the Gordon A. Wicker <br />Community Conference Room at the Lee County Government Center. Members of the <br />Finance Committee in attendance were Chairman Robert T. Reives, Commissioner J. <br />Douglas Moretz and Commissioner T. Ervin Mansfield. Commissioner F. Hubert Garner <br />was also in attendance. Others present for the meeting were County Manager William K. <br />Cowan, County Attorney K. R. Hoyle, Finance Director Lisa Minter and Clerk to the <br />Board Gaynell M. Lee. <br />Chairman Reives called the meeting to order. <br />County Manager William Cowan gave the Committee a report on the printers <br />requested in the proposed budget. <br />Mr. Cowan also reported to the Committee that Mr. Steve Wrenn will receive <br />approximately $56,800 for the next six months as interim School Superintendent. <br />Information Services Director Lesa Price gave the Committee a report on the <br />automation process for the Register of Deeds Office. Register of Deeds Nellie Thomas <br />was present and asked the Committee to consider adding a one-half time (20 hours per <br />week) position to her budget. Commissioner Moretz moved that a part-time (20 hours <br />per week) position be included in the Register of Deeds budget for FY 1998-99. <br />Commissioner Mansfield seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Mansfield, Moretz and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously and would be <br />presented to the full Board for consideration. <br />Mr. George Whitaker, Chairman of the Board of Elections appeared before the <br />Committee and requested $450,920 for new electronic voting machines. He told the <br />Committee the Board of Elections had no confidence in the current machines. Mr. Reives <br />
