02 <br />B-oK 17 nGE 483 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />OCTOBER 19, 1998 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State <br />of North Carolina, convened at 4:00 p.m. in the Commissioners' Room, 106 Hillcrest <br />J Drive, Sanford, North Carolina. Commissioners present were Jimmie M. Cox, F. Hubert <br />Garner, T. Ervin Mansfield, Bertha L. Matthews, J. Douglas Moretz, Nathan E. Paschal <br />and Robert T. Reives. <br />Chairperson Matthews presided and the following business was transacted. <br />Commissioner Jimmie Cox delivered the invocation. <br />The Board considered additional agenda items. Chairperson Matthews asked the <br />Board to consider a request to the North Carolina Department of Transportation to <br />conduct a traffic study on Big Springs Road. Commissioner Morctz moved to add the <br />above item to the agenda. Commissioner Garner seconded the motion, and upon a vote, <br />the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered the addition of a Community Services Consultant position <br />to the Lee County Pay Plan. Health Director Phyllis Lowry told the Board the Health <br />Department had received notification of a grant award in the amount of $39,680 from the <br />Duke Endowment. If approved, this grant will be used to hire a coordinator for the local <br />Healthy Carolinians Task Force, Lee Community Action Network (LeeCAN), who will <br />seek new grant funding to support the public health related needs of the community. This <br />new position will need to be added to the Lee County pay plan at Grade 66, Salary Range <br />$27,256-$38,051. Commissioner Cox moved to add the position to the Lee County pay <br />plan with the stipulation that it be eliminated after the first year if funds are not received <br />from the Duke Endowment to continue supporting the position. He also asked that the <br />employee sign a statement acknowledging that they are aware of the possibility of the <br />position being eliminated. Commissioner Garner seconded the motion, and upon a vote, <br />the results were as follows: <br />
