ACK
BOOK 17 Pace= 0 I:) 3
The Board considered an agreement with the North Carolina Department of
Agriculture for food commodities for Senior Services. Senior Services Director
Debbie Davidson told the Board the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and
Consumer Services Food Distribution Division would like to enter into an agreement
with The Enrichment Center to contribute surplus meat, vegetables, fruit, and dairy
products. The Enrichment Center currently has a contract with the Sheriff's
Department to prepare meals for the congregate and hone delivered meal program at
Senior Services. An agreement must be approved and signed in order for Senior
Services to receive these free commodities. Commissioner Reives moved to approve
the agreement between the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and The
Enrichment Center. Commissioner Garner seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the
results were as follows:
Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives
Nay: None
The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered the purchase of nine new vehicles for the Sheriffs
Department. Sheriff Billy Bryant asked the Board to consider and approve a request
for nine new automobiles at a total of $182,700. He told the Board if approved, the
automobiles would be purchased locally. Commissioner Cox moved to approve the
request to purchase nine new vehicles for the Sheriffs Department at a total cost of
S182,700. Commissioner Paschal seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results
were as follows:
Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives
Nay: None
The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered a Clean Water Management Trust Fund Grant.
Community Development Director Reggie Scales told the Board if the grant was
approved a 300 feet buffer and development of a greenway trail along Little Buffalo
Creek from downtown Sanford to the Amos Bridges Road would be constructed. The
construction of the greenway would lessen the potential impact of development on the
creek and provide much needed recreation for the community. Mr. Scales told the
Board this grant, if approved, would represent an excellent opportunity for the City of
Sanford and County of Lee to leverage State funds for the improvement of water
quality and development of recreation areas. He was recommending both the City
and County contribute $20,000 as a cash match if the grant is approved. The cash
contribution, along with in-kind service contributions, will greatly increase the
chances of grant approval. After some discussion, Commissioner Garner moved to
approve the $20,000 cash match. Commissioner Paschal seconded the motion, and
upon a vote, the results were as follows:
3
